Beyond reporting

Signature
annual reports

Producing an annual report that reflects your company’s character while drawing in new audiences in addition to effectively communicating your key messages is another exciting project to explore. After all, in many ways, the annual report is your company’s calling card.

While research, learning, and practice remain the trifecta for a good annual report that still leaves room for creativity. From basing your annual report’s structure on your company’s business model to its values and strategies – the choices are multiple. Then ensuring your key stakeholder groups receive the report in the channel or format that is most relevant and convenient to them ensures wider coverage as illustrated in the slides here.

A signature annual report also lends itself towards promoting key annual report content across social media throughout the year.

The International Integrated Reporting Council’s (IIRC) audiences span the entire world including all report preparers, regulators, and standards setters. It is a concise report that uses multiple channels to reach the diverse and widespread groups of readers.

The integrated report evaluates progress made in the IIRC’s mission to mainstream integrated reporting during 2018, as it moved from the 'breakthrough phase' to the 'momentum phase' of its strategy. Under the IIRC’s key achievements for 2018 the integrated report also highlights studies, such as EY’s 2018 global investor survey, which indicate that investors now consider integrated reports the most useful source of non-financial information. The IIRC’s 2018 integrated report was published in multiple mediums with, for the first time, limited assurance from an independent auditor.

As the world was impacted by COVID-19 and organisations were compelled to review their business models and resilience, the need for a framework for integrated thinking and integrated reporting to support businesses and financial markets was further highlighted. The IIRC Integrated Report 2019 sets out their commitment in this regard using integrated thinking and reporting to navigate these testing and uncertain times.

2019 marks ten years since the creation of the IIRC. The 2019 integrated report outlines the progress it has made in delivering on its strategy towards establishing a globally accepted and comprehensive corporate reporting system, one that is shaped by the underlying trends that affect the global economy and the ecosystem of corporate reporting standard setters and framework providers.

DFCC Bank is a fully-operational commercial bank that has retained its development banking flavour to work towards all aspects of sustainable development. Throughout the Bank’s integrated journey, its reports have incorporated key elements from the <IR> framework. The report’s theme ‘Connected’ refers to the Bank’s main aim to adopt integrated thinking in company-wide operations to create robust links with all stakeholders across all platforms and to make every connection meaningful.

The report continued its concise and elegant style which characterised previous reports. The 2019 report marks the sixth consecutive year that DFCC Bank utilised Annual Report Plus™. The product enables DFCC Bank to cater to each intended audience with relevant information in a concise manner using print and digital mediums.

There are QR codes in five sections of the printed report; these enable readers to access these key sections on their devices. A video annual report was also published in English that outlined the key highlights of the year which can be viewed on any device for the convenience of all stakeholders.

Sunshine Holdings PLC is a going concern – that goes without saying – a business that has the ability to continue into the foreseeable future. As a “growing” concern, this conglomerate highlights its unrelenting commitment to grow while focusing on its key corporate values. In fact, the annual report is structured on these values.
